While the COVID-19 pandemic and physical distancing continue, we as a human race are facing a collective trauma as Dr. Seth Gillihan points out. Nearly every minute of the news, no matter the channel, is filled with updates on the latest coronavirus cases. Petitions from friends flood our newsfeeds to ask the state to let them go back to work or help with their bills. People are losing jobs, livelihoods, and some; lives. All of this feels unpredictable and out of our control.
With our go to coping skills cut off like going out for dinner with friends, attending a baseball game, hanging out at the park, exercise, it is easy to feel triggered. Emotions are heightened and we are trying to consistently adjust to a ever changing situation.
Know that it is ok to feel triggered and that many of the responses listed in the blog are completely understandable during this time. Grant yourself some kindness and others around you.
