Nina Deer earned her Master of Social Work from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois Chicago. She also holds a Master of Science in Kinesiology, with a concentration in the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, from Illinois State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology from Cornell College, where she was a member of the Division III women’s lacrosse team.
Nina is passionate about supporting individuals in their personal growth, meeting clients with warmth, authenticity, and respect for where they are. She takes a strengths-based, person-centered approach and integrates evidence-based modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
She has experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults, with particular expertise in supporting collegiate, high school, and youth athletes through transitions and challenges in sport.
Nina has worked in Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) settings, supporting individuals with anxiety, depression, OCD, and trauma. She prioritizes a collaborative, trusting therapeutic relationship and provides a nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with empathy and curiosity.
