Fall tryouts can bring a lot of nerves—but you have more control than you think. 🍂💭
Focus on what’s in your control, use positive self-talk, and try reframing anxiety as excitement. Your body might be feeling nervous because you care—and that energy can help you show up, stay focused, and do your best. 💪
You don’t have to eliminate the nerves. Learn to work with them. 🤍

Some mood changes are a normal part of the menstrual cycle.
ㅤ
PMDD is not.
ㅤ
If anxiety, depression, irritability, or emotional overwhelm show up at the same time every month—and then seem to disappear once your period begins—it may be more than "just PMS."
ㅤ
This carousel breaks down the signs of PMDD, why it happens, and why understanding the pattern matters.
ㅤ
Save this for later, or share it with someone who`s been told to "just deal with it." 💙
ㅤ
You don`t have to dismiss what you`re experiencing. With the right evaluation and evidence-based treatment, PMDD is manageable.

Every fall, we see kids — and parents — who are really struggling with the back-to-school transition. And most of them waited months before getting help, assuming it would just pass. 💙
ㅤ
What to watch for:
ㅤ
Persistent sadness, worry, or hopelessness
Stomach aches or headaches before school
Trouble sleeping or concentrating
Social withdrawal or irritability
Refusing to go to school
ㅤ
Adjustment Disorder is triggered by life transitions. It`s more than "nerves" — but it`s also highly treatable, especially with CBT.
ㅤ
If your child (or you) is struggling more than expected with the start of a new school year, this is exactly what we treat at Light On Anxiety.

That constant ringing, buzzing, or humming isn`t "just in your ears."
ㅤ
For many people, tinnitus can become emotionally exhausting. The more attention your brain gives the sound, the louder and more intrusive it can begin to feel.
ㅤ
The good news?
ㅤ
There are evidence-based strategies that can help reduce the distress tinnitus causes. While the sound may not disappear overnight, your relationship with it can change—and that can make a meaningful difference.
ㅤ
In this video, Rachel Eriksen from Light On Anxiety explains why tinnitus can feel so overwhelming and how therapy can help you respond to it in a healthier, more manageable way. 💙
ㅤ
If tinnitus has been affecting your daily life, know that you don`t have to navigate it alone.

POV: summer break is officially coming to an end 📚😅
Transitioning back to school can bring a mix of excitement, stress, and a lot of feelings. Remember to give yourself time to adjust, get back into a routine, and be kind to yourself along the way. 💛

Back-to-school season can bring a mix of excitement and anxiety — for both kids and parents.
Light On Anxiety therapist Michelle Lorenzen, MSW shares one of her favorite tips for easing that transition:
✨ Make time to truly connect.
Whether it’s a milkshake run, a cozy walk, or a few quiet moments at home — carving out intentional time with your child can open space for meaningful conversations.
Ask them:
💬 What are your goals or worries for the year ahead?
Then share your own. Showing your child that you also have emotions, hopes, and fears helps normalize their experience and strengthen your bond 💙

4 things anxious attachment does to your nervous system — and why they make total sense. 🧠
ㅤ
Rest feels suspicious, not relaxing.
You rehearse worst-case scenarios to feel "prepared."
Reassurance works for 5 minutes, then resets.
Calm relationships feel "boring" at first.
ㅤ
None of these are character flaws. They`re adaptations.
ㅤ
If you grew up in an environment that felt unpredictable, emotionally inconsistent, or unsafe — your nervous system learned to stay on high alert.
ㅤ
That was smart. It was protective.
ㅤ
The problem is your nervous system doesn`t automatically know when the environment has changed. It keeps running the same old programming in relationships, at work, in quiet moments, everywhere.
ㅤ
That`s where the work happens. Not "trying harder to relax" — but actually teaching your nervous system what safety feels like.
ㅤ
It`s learnable. We promise.
ㅤ

💬 You asked. We answered.
Why am I so afraid of vomiting, even when I’m not sick?
Emetophobia is more than a fear of throwing up—it’s an anxiety disorder that can make everyday situations feel overwhelming. Even normal body sensations can trigger intense anxiety and a cycle of fear and avoidance.
The good news? Emetophobia is treatable with evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), helping you break free from the fear and get back to living your life.💛

The cancel text is drafted. Your brain is telling you it`s self-care.
ㅤ
But is it?
ㅤ
There`s a real difference between rest that restores you and avoidance that quietly shrinks your world. And anxiety is very good at disguising one as the other.
ㅤ
This carousel breaks down the difference — and gives you a question worth sitting with before you send that message.

Sunset anxiety is a real thing. And if you`ve felt it, you know.
ㅤ
That creeping unease as the light fades. The restlessness that shows up right around golden hour. A vague sense that something isn`t right — even when everything is fine.
ㅤ
It doesn`t have an official diagnosis yet, but the experience is real and well-documented. Research suggests it`s tied to anxiety patterns that don`t ease up through the day, as well as your natural body clock.
ㅤ
Dr. Debra Kissen, CEO of Light On Anxiety, was recently featured in SELF Magazine breaking this down. Read the full piece at the link in bio — and share it with someone who needs to know there`s a name for what they`re feeling.

Body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) are more than “bad habits.” They are repetitive behaviors that can occur alongside conditions like OCD and certain tic disorders, often serving as a way to manage distress or respond to overwhelming urges.
While these behaviors may provide temporary relief, they can also leave people feeling stuck in a cycle of anxiety, frustration, shame, or loss of control.
The good news? Effective, evidence-based treatment is available. You don’t have to navigate it alone. 💙

As a therapist, here`s what most people get wrong about anxiety. 👇
ㅤ
Most people think anxiety is a thinking problem. It`s not.
ㅤ
Here`s what I wish more people knew:
ㅤ
1. Anxiety is not weakness. It`s your brain`s protection system working overtime. It just hasn`t learned yet that you`re actually safe.
2. Trying to eliminate anxiety makes it stronger. The more you fight it, avoid it, or beg it to stop, the more your brain interprets that as confirmation there`s something to fear.
3. Avoidance gives you short-term relief and long-term suffering. Every time you skip the hard thing, your brain logs it as: "That was too dangerous for me." The anxiety grows.
4. Calm is not the goal. Tolerance is. The goal of anxiety treatment isn`t to feel peaceful all the time — it`s to be able to do the things that matter to you even when anxiety shows up.
5. "Just think positive" doesn`t work. You can`t reason your way out of anxiety when your nervous system is in alarm mode. The body has to come down first.
6. Reassurance-seeking feels helpful but isn`t. Asking "are you SURE everything will be okay?" over and over trains your brain to need external permission to feel safe — and that permission never fully lasts.
7. Anxious thoughts are not facts. They`re your brain generating worst-case scenarios to make sure no risk gets missed. That doesn`t make them true.
8. Anxiety often lives in the body before it lives in the mind. Tight chest. Shallow breath. Racing heart. Learning to recognize and respond to those physical signals changes everything.
ㅤ
The good news?
ㅤ
When you understand how anxiety actually works, it loses a lot of its power.
ㅤ
That`s what we do at Light On Anxiety — evidence-based CBT that teaches you not just how to cope, but how to actually rewire the patterns underneath.
