Eco-distress is real. πΏπ
Feeling overwhelmed by environmental concerns or extreme weather is more common than many people realize. These feelings can be heavy, but you don`t have to carry them alone.
Focus on what you can control, take breaks when you need them, and remember that protecting your mental health is just as important as protecting the world around you. π

Sunset anxiety is a real thing. And if you`ve felt it, you know.
γ
€
That creeping unease as the light fades. The restlessness that shows up right around golden hour. A vague sense that something isn`t right β even when everything is fine.
γ
€
It doesn`t have an official diagnosis yet, but the experience is real and well-documented. Research suggests it`s tied to anxiety patterns that don`t ease up through the day, as well as your natural body clock.
γ

Dr. Debra Kissen, CEO of Light On Anxiety, was recently featured in SELF Magazine breaking this down. Read the full piece at the link in bio β and share it with someone who needs to know there`s a name for what they`re feeling.

Body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) are more than βbad habits.β They are repetitive behaviors that can occur alongside conditions like OCD and certain tic disorders, often serving as a way to manage distress or respond to overwhelming urges.
While these behaviors may provide temporary relief, they can also leave people feeling stuck in a cycle of anxiety, frustration, shame, or loss of control.
The good news? Effective, evidence-based treatment is available. You donβt have to navigate it alone. π

As a therapist, here`s what most people get wrong about anxiety. π
γ
€
Most people think anxiety is a thinking problem. It`s not.
γ
€
Here`s what I wish more people knew:
γ
€
1. Anxiety is not weakness. It`s your brain`s protection system working overtime. It just hasn`t learned yet that you`re actually safe.
2. Trying to eliminate anxiety makes it stronger. The more you fight it, avoid it, or beg it to stop, the more your brain interprets that as confirmation there`s something to fear.
3. Avoidance gives you short-term relief and long-term suffering. Every time you skip the hard thing, your brain logs it as: "That was too dangerous for me." The anxiety grows.
4. Calm is not the goal. Tolerance is. The goal of anxiety treatment isn`t to feel peaceful all the time β it`s to be able to do the things that matter to you even when anxiety shows up.
5. "Just think positive" doesn`t work. You can`t reason your way out of anxiety when your nervous system is in alarm mode. The body has to come down first.
6. Reassurance-seeking feels helpful but isn`t. Asking "are you SURE everything will be okay?" over and over trains your brain to need external permission to feel safe β and that permission never fully lasts.
7. Anxious thoughts are not facts. They`re your brain generating worst-case scenarios to make sure no risk gets missed. That doesn`t make them true.
8. Anxiety often lives in the body before it lives in the mind. Tight chest. Shallow breath. Racing heart. Learning to recognize and respond to those physical signals changes everything.
γ
€
The good news?
γ
€
When you understand how anxiety actually works, it loses a lot of its power.
γ
€
That`s what we do at Light On Anxiety β evidence-based CBT that teaches you not just how to cope, but how to actually rewire the patterns underneath.

Depression does not usually respond to βjust think positive.β
γ
€
But it can respond to small, steady steps that support your brain and body. π§ π
γ
€
When youβre depressed, even basic self-care can feel impossible. That does not mean youβre failing. It means your energy, motivation, sleep, appetite, and mood may all be impacted at once.
γ
€
So the goal is not to overhaul your life overnight.
γ
€
The goal is to interrupt the cycle in small ways:
γ
€
Protect your sleep. π΄
Move your body, even a little. πΆ
Name what youβre feeling.
Reach out, even when you want to isolate.
Get morning light. βοΈ
Get the support you deserve when self-care is not enough.
γ
€
You do not have to feel motivated first.
γ
€
Start small. Save this for a hard day. And remember: you do not have to manage depression alone.

Your childβs brain has one job: keep them safe. π§ πΊ
γ
€
But sometimes, that internal alarm starts howling when thereβs no real danger.
γ
€
A new teacher.
A loud room.
A change in plans.
A birthday party that suddenly feels too big.
γ
€
For anxious kids, everyday moments can feel like emergencies.
γ
€
Try asking:
γ
€
βIs this a real alarmβ¦ or a false alarm?β
γ
€
This CBT-based tool helps kids slow down, check the facts, and learn that fear is a feeling β not always a fact.
γ
€
Because confidence grows every time they realize:
γ
€
βI was scaredβ¦ and I handled it.β
γ
€
Save this for the next time the alarm goes off. πΊ

For many kids, anxiety doesnβt show up as words, it shows up as feelings in their body.
γ
€
School drop-offs become tears.
Lunchtime feels overwhelming.
Bedtime turns into a battle.
γ
€
But what if those feelings arenβt dangerβ¦ just a false alarm?
γ
€
In this session, one of our therapists helped a child understand the difference between a real alarm (true danger) and a false alarm (your body trying to protect you when youβre actually safe).
γ
€
That one shift changed everything.
γ
€
β¨ Fear became something they could name
β¨ Anxiety became something they could navigate
β¨ And walking into school alone became possible
γ
€
This is the power of understanding anxiety, not fighting it, but learning how it works.

ADHD or anxiety? Sometimes, the outside looks the same.
γ
€
Trouble focusing.
Restlessness.
Procrastination.
Big feelings.
Constant overwhelm.
γ
€
But underneath, the βwhyβ can be very different.
γ
€
One brain may be chasing stimulation.
Another may be scanning for danger.
γ
€
And when you understand whatβs really driving the behavior, support starts to fit better.
γ
€
Thatβs where clarity matters. A thoughtful evaluation can help kids, adults, and families move from confusion to compassion β and from guessing to getting the right tools. π

Online therapy or in-person therapy β how do you know which one is right for you?
γ
€
The truth is, thereβs no βperfectβ option. The best therapy format is the one that helps you feel comfortable enough to begin. π
γ
€
β¨ Teletherapy may be a great fit if you:
β’ Have a busy schedule
β’ Prefer the comfort of home
β’ Travel often
β’ Want easier access to care
γ
€
β¨ In-person therapy may help more if you:
β’ Feel isolated or stuck at home
β’ Need more structure and routine
β’ Struggle focusing virtually
β’ Feel more connected face-to-face
γ
€
Both can be effective.
Both can support healing.
γ
€
And for many children, in-person therapy can sometimes be especially helpful because therapy often includes movement, play, and hands-on interaction.
γ
€
β¨ Swipe through to explore which therapy format may fit you best β because the most important step isnβt choosing perfectly. Itβs starting.

"They never stop talking at home⦠but at school, they won`t say a word."
If this sounds familiar, your child may not be "just shy." Selective mutism is an anxiety disorder, not stubbornness, defiance, or bad parenting.
Children with selective mutism want to speak, but in certain settings, their anxiety becomes so overwhelming that they freeze.
Some common signs include:
β’ Talking comfortably at home but not at school or in public
β’ Whispering, nodding, or pointing instead of speaking
β’ Avoiding eye contact
β’ Looking frozen in social situations
The good news? CBT treatment is highly effective, and with the right support, children can build confidence and begin finding their voice again.
π± Early intervention matters.
