Medication for Anxiety

If I take medication for anxiety, will I take it always?

By Debra Kissen

Question:

I have read that generally SSRI w/ CBT is the best treatment for OCD.

I am just wondering how that works as far as when someone goes off the SSRI. Or is the idea to stay on the SSRI forever? Since the Brains chemicals are altered on the SSRI – does the CBT have effect when someone goes off? or is there reason to do CBT without Meds.

Light On Anxiety Answer:

Taking a SSRI to help move past anxiety can allow for new learnings that take hold even when the SSRI is longer taken but some choose to stay in the SSRI indefinitely, as well, as they feel better on it and experience no bothersome side effects.
