Contamination OCD
Contamination OCD involves unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, images, and sensations (obsessions) related to fear of contaminants and germs, getting AIDs or other serious diseases, or someone you love dying from germs and engagement in behaviors or mental acts in response to these thoughts or obsessions (compulsions).
- Frequent disturbing intrusive thoughts relating to fear of contaminants and germs, getting AIDs or other serious diseases, or that someone you love will die from germs
- Repeated behaviors that one feels complled to engage in such as repeated hand washing, showering or bathing, or excessive house cleaning
- Obsessions and compulsions cause clinically significant emotional distress
- Feared consequence is that one will be contaminated and contract a serious disease
