Mental compulsions or otherwise known as covert compulsions are those that are actively being ritualized inside of one’s head. Because of this, it is often hard to identify by just looking at a person. Although these are not done in obvious ways such as checking compulsions (making sure the door is locked), they are still mentally draining. Utilizing appropriate tools can help in refraining from actively engaging in the mental rituals which in turn can make it easier to decrease urges and improve the ability to disengage from the distressing thoughts all together.
