Sam Acevedo, MSW, MA
Samantha is a certified CBT and OCD Specialist and has completed the extensive clinical training program through the Center for Anxiety Training. Samantha obtained her Master of Arts in Social Work from the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration. Samantha has extensive clinical training in behavioral therapy interventions such as CBT, DBT, ACT, ERP and mindfulness-based techniques. She is also certified in Trauma-focused CBT.
Samantha has experience working in various levels of care treating mental health disorders such as anxiety, OCD, depression, and eating disorders. She has worked in the emergency room providing crisis intervention services, provided group therapy in grammar and junior high schools, conducted intake assessments for outpatient care, and both trained and worked in partial-hospitalization, intensive-outpatient, and residential treatment programming for mood, anxiety, trauma, and eating disorders.
Samantha believes in a relational approach and that growth happens through authentic connection. She is passionate about bringing awareness to what emotions are potentially signaling to individuals and how to respond in line with their values or goals. She utilizes a strength-based, client-centered approach while helping individuals develop adaptive coping mechanisms in the face of distress. Samantha encourages vulnerability and authenticity in her sessions and creates a safe space for self-discovery.
