As we come into the last part of January, many of us are working hard to improve our bodies through losing weight. This article is so great, because it talks about reasons why losing weight is hard. And it isn’t because you are lazy, have low impulse control, or aren’t trying hard enough! There are many reasons behind challenges to losing weight including maladaptive thinking styles, our genes, and our gut health.
When working with anxiety, we look at how we can add mindfulness and increase distress tolerance versus avoiding anxiety provoking situations and resisting anxious thoughts. The same outlook can be used with weight loss: focus on adding healthy habits instead of resisting and avoiding bad habits.
