Jessica Katz, LSW created this user friendly, clear and concise DBT Cheat Sheet.
In the 1980s, Dr. Marsha Linehan developed Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to treat Borderline Personality Disorder. Today, it is used to help those with a variety of mental health challenges. What I appreciate about DBT is its focus on two seemingly opposite approaches (a dialectic, some may say): acceptance and change. We can validate our emotions, while working to adapt self-defeating patterns. My quick guide to DBT covers coping skills for distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness, and emotion regulation. I hope it resonates with at least one person! (Also, shoutout to Latroya Clady-Davis for teaching me these skills and modeling how to use them in therapy. You’re an incredible teacher, role model, and mental health professional!)
