There is a great quote from this article: “Conflict is like traffic; we may not like it but we can’t escape it.” Living with a chronic illness and being a people pleaser can be a tough combination. You feel fatigued and in pain constantly, yet you continue to say yes in order to not make waves. Now you feel physically awful and can’t stop kicking yourself for saying yes to something you simply have no energy for. Sound familiar? Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. This means practicing saying no and investigating what makes saying “no” scary. Next time a situation comes up that you do not have the mental/physical/emotional energy for remind yourself that you cannot please everyone… so why don’t you please yourself?
